All India Radio is the national public radio broadcaster that was launched in the year 1936. From 1956 it is known as “Akashvani” which means the voice from the sky. AIR is also a division of Prasar Bharati. It is established in the year 1930 as the sister service of an Indian national public television broadcaster, Doordarshan.

It is a government organisation with the motto Bahujanahitaya Bahujanasukhaya.
The headquarters of AIR is in New Delhi and it comprises 420 stations across India which reaches 99% of the total population and 92% of the country’s area. It broadcasts various programmes in 23 languages and 179 dialects.
