KVIC :- Khadi and Village Industries Commission

Khadi is a natural fiber cloth made of cotton. It is a very comfortable cloth as it is cool during summer and warm during winter. It was launched in the Swadeshi Movement of Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. The industries located within the rural area are the Village Industries. The Indian Government merged Khadi and Village Industries under the Act of Parliament, ‘Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act of 1956’. It was formed in the year 1956 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Late Sardar K.A. Venkataramaiya was the first director of KVIC. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission is promoting Khadi in India. The schemes, ‘Prime Minister’s Rojgar Yojana (PMRY)’ and ‘Rural Employment Generation Program (REGP)’ has been merged as ‘Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP)’, and the District Khadi and Village Industries Officer at Faridabad and Palwal in Haryana, Naresh Kadyan, first conducted the committee meeting for the implementation of PMEGP scheme.
