LAHDC – Ladakh Hill Development Council
The council, Ladakh Hill Development Council was developed under the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act 1995 and it also follows the demands of people of Ladakh for making and developing the Leh District into a new Indian Union Territory. The reason for making it new union territory is due the religious and cultural which is different from other people and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. In the month of October in 1993, the Indian Union Government and the Jammu and Kashmir State Government both agreed to grant the status of Autonomous Hill Council to Ladakh. This council came into the limelight when elections held in the month of August in 1995. The council’s inaugural meeting was organized and held at Leh in the month of September in 1995. This Ladakh Hill Development Council has also been established and implemented in neighboring district i.e. Kargil district.
