LASER: – Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
A LASER emits light utilizing a process which is known as optical amplification. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) is based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. It is a device or system which use a process i.e. stimulated emission. The stimulated emission process helps in generating the light. The light of Laser travels in a straight line. For the generation of laser light, mainly three processes are incorporated which are mentioned below:
- Absorption
- Stimulated emission
- Spontaneous emission
- Components of a Laser
- The 3 basic components of a laser are following:-
- Lasing material
- Pump source
- Optical cavity
The basic properties of LASER which make it more useful than other processes are mentioned below:
- Highly monochromatic
- Highly coherent
- Highly directional
- Highly focused
There are three types of LASERS and every type of LASER has a different application. The is also one of the features which makes it more demanding. The types are the following:
- Solid State Laser
- Gas Laser
- Metal Vapor Laser
