The full form of SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is a viral respiratory disease of zoonotic origin. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is caused by a virus that is called, the SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV). The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is an infectious disease. No cure has been founded for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Flu, fever, muscle pain, lethargic symptoms, cough, sore throat, and other nonspecific symptoms are the initial symptoms of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The most common symptom of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is what appears to be a fever above 38 degree Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit). The average incubation period of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is 4-6 days, although rarely it could be as short as 1 day and as long as 14 days. The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome may gradually lead to more serious diseases like shortness of breath and/or pneumonia or secondary bacterial pneumonia. An outbreak of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in Southern China occurred in the years between November 2002 and July 2003. This outbreak caused an eventual 8,098 cases resulting in 774 deaths reported in 37 countries with the majority of cases in China (9.6% fatality rate) according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Although no cases of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome have been reported since the year 2004, in late 2017, Chinese scientists traced the virus to cave-dwelling Horseshoe bats in Yunnan province.
